
Second Meeting of the ECPGR Working Group on Umbellifer Crops

June 25-28 VIR hosted the second Meeting of the ECPGR Working Group on umbellifer crops. In the meeting participated: ECPGR coordinator L.Maggioni (Italy), head of the group E. Geoffriau (France), curators of National collections, genebank and scientific institutions representatives working with plant genetic resources in Russia, UK, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Albania, Poland, Lithuania, Serbia, Czech Republic.
In course of the meetingL.Maggioni reported on changes in ECPGR structure in Phase IX, amendments to EURISCO and Central Crop Databases. All participants delivered reports on National programs and their collections` status. Discussion on the development of European collection included additions to AEGIS and AQUAS, issues on the most appropriated accession of carrot to be included in AEGIS, landraces and wild relatives of the cultivar, as well as other umbellifers to be included into the European collection, minimal descriptor and minimum quality standards. A considerable attention was paid to the project on collecting and study of umbellifer wild relatives, including issues of biodiversity, taxonomy, cytogenetics, resistance to Alternaria blight.
Participants visited N.I. Vavilov Memorial study, genebank and Herbarium.
Upon the meeting completion 7 participants visited trial field and green houses of VIR labs in Pushkin.
