Viktor Zubkov at VIR On 26 April 2011 the First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov visited N.I. Vavilov Research Institute of Plant Industry. During his visit Viktor Zubkov examined Institute`s cryobank and library, besides that he met with the president of the Russian academy of agriculture science, academician Gennady Romanenko, VIR`s Director Nikolay Dzyubenko and other staff members of the Institute. Among the multiple discussion topics there was the situation with VIR collections preserved at the Pavlovsk experiment station. As Viktor Zubkov reported: “the Institute disposes of a world known collection …of course, we have to do our best in order not to lose or damage it. Thus we set up a moratorium forbidding the conveyance of plots. The commission is working right now. In the spring, in May-June we will carefully examine the situation once again. We are not going to take any premature decisions regarding this institute. Anyway, interests of science should be in the first place, everything else is the rest”. Viktor Zubkov highly appreciated a draft law on plant genetic resources aiming to preserve collections like Vavilov`s that was developed by VIR in close cooperation with the Russian academy of agriculture science and Ministry of agriculture.
